A Handicap bet involves giving one team a + or – advantage, often referred to as the ‘line’. This line adjusts the final score by adding or subtracting points from each team.
For example, if the line is 1.25, one team will have 1.25 points added to their score, and the other will have 1.25 points subtracted. The Handicap winner is the team that covers the spread based on the adjusted line and the final score.
Example:
Let’s say Team A is playing Team B in a soccer match. The line is +1.25 for Team A, meaning they are the underdogs. If Team A loses by 1 goal or less, you win the bet.
- Final result: Team A 1 vs Team B 2
- Handicap: Team A +1.25
Now, adjust the score:
- Team A 1 + 1.25 = 2.25
- Team B remains 2
Since Team A’s adjusted score (2.25) is higher than Team B’s (2), you win the bet.
